About City of Hope Orange County

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025. 

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

The Physical Therapist Lead provides high-quality patient care and family education through comprehensive evaluation, individualized treatment planning, and the application of physical therapy modalities in accordance with regulatory standards and City of Hope. This role serves as a consultant for complex cases, delivering innovative and efficient treatment strategies. Responsibilities include supervising staff, developing clinical programs and treatment protocols, and coordinating both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. The Physical Therapist also actively engages in academic initiatives, clinical research, and community outreach projects, contributing to the growth and excellence of the rehabilitation program.

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Screen patients to determine need for intervention and initiates referrals as appropriate
  • Be able to creatively combine or breakdown treatment techniques to develop unique treatment plans based on broad knowledge/skills to effectively address multi-faceted, complicated problems
  • Demonstrate advanced level skills in developing treatment goals and plans based on evaluation data, rehabilitation potential, discharge plans, and in coordination with goals and plans of patient, family, and other care team members
  • Demonstrate advanced level skills and creativity in implementing patient treatment programs which are safe, effective, and efficient
  • Demonstrate advanced level skills in modifying treatment plans according to patient needs and progress, terminates treatment appropriately, and develops appropriate discharge and post discharge plans
  • Collaborate with physician and other healthcare professionals to ensure ongoing integrated patient care
  • Assign treatments to physical therapists, aides, and physical therapist assistants. Assess quality of care provided
  • Oversight of patient and staff scheduling (e.g., therapist and aides)
  • Assist other departments with referral process to ensure patients are referred to the Rehabilitation Services appropriately

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school
  • 5 years of recent physical therapy experience
  • Leadership experience
  • Current Physical Therapist License in the State of California
  • CPR Certification (American Heart Association)
