City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.
 
With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.


The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (CPS) operates at the highest level of clinical practice, independently delivering evidence-based pharmaceutical care through direct and indirect interactions with patients and healthcare providers. As a key member of City of Hope’s multidisciplinary team, the CPS collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide advanced clinical services while offering professional guidance within their assigned service line. They play a pivotal role in expanding comprehensive clinical pharmacy services and ensuring safe, effective, and timely pharmacotherapy in alignment with evidence-based guidelines, regulatory standards, and City of Hope policies.
Recognized as the pharmacy’s leading subject matter expert in medication management within their specialty, the CPS delivers patient-centered care by providing disease education, counseling, benefit verification, and care coordination with multiple providers. They also develop personalized adherence management plans and conduct thorough medication education for both patients and caregivers.
 


As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Provide input in the development of guidelines for use of anti-infective agents, assist in implementation of guidelines, and assures compliance with guidelines.
  • Ensure utilization of anti-infective agents is consistent with national guidelines, current evidence-based literature, and institution specific susceptibility patterns.
  • Serve as liaison between staff physicians and Director of Infectious Disease for patients who do not meet established guidelines.
  • Daily conferences and clinical rounds with the Infectious Disease Attending Physician to review patients and therapies
  • Promote cost-effective use of anti-infective agents.
  • Provide in-services and updates to staff on anti-infective guidelines, literature, and initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Leadership Team.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include: 

  • Graduate of ACPE-accredited Pharmacy School 
  • Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY 1) and Specialty Residency (PGY2), or Five years of experience as a clinical pharmacist in a desired area of specialty may substitute for the required residencies, or A PGY1 residency plus three years of experience as a clinical pharmacist in a desired area of specialty may substitute for the required PGY2 residency.
  • Current CA Pharmacist License
  • American Heart Association BLS certification
  • Board Certification in the area of specialty (if applicable) is required or must be obtained within 3 years of employment
