The pharmacy technician under the supervision of a registered pharmacist is responsible for assisting in the preparation and distribution of patient medications. The pharmacy technician will assist in maintaining inventory and stock medications throughout the hospital, utilizing pharmacy inventory systems. The pharmacy technician will assist with daily required review of regulatory paperwork and maintaining patient billing records.

The successful candidate:

  • Must be able to work PRN, As Needed.

  • Aseptic Compounding: Competently prepares sterile IV preparations such as Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), IV drips, and chemotherapy in compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 guidelines, ensuring patient safety and quality standards are met.

  • Medication Distribution: Procures and distributes medication orders based on physician or pharmacist requests, adhering to established policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Inventory Management: Assists in maintaining adequate stock levels of medications and supplies, utilizing pharmacy inventory systems and following established inventory control procedures.

  • Automated Dispensing Machines Management: Supports the management of automated dispensing machines, ensuring proper functioning, quality control, and compliance with regulatory measures.

  • Pharmacy Workflow Support: Assists in streamlining pharmacy workflow by directing phone calls to appropriate staff members and delivering patient-specific medications to various departments within the facility.

  • Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance: Participates in departmental and hospital quality assurance programs, with a focus on patient safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Monthly Unit Inspections: Assists in conducting regulatory-required monthly inspections of units throughout the hospital that stock medications, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Effective Departmental Operation: Contributes to the effective operation of the pharmacy department by performing assigned tasks efficiently and maintaining a cooperative attitude within the team.

  • Maintaining Competencies: Keeps up-to-date with competencies required for the current job title/position, ensuring continued proficiency in performing duties effectively.

Overall, the pharmacy technician is a crucial support role within the pharmacy department, responsible for various tasks related to medication preparation, distribution, inventory management, and regulatory compliance, all aimed at ensuring safe and efficient pharmacy operations within the hospital.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED certification)

  • Current Georgia Pharmacy Technician License

  • National Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) obtained within 60 days of employment
